Since arriving on the shores of this place called the United States, we have been Giving Black® to a nation that was not always grateful for the gifts it received. Through gifts of inventiveness, protection, support, and sometimes even life itself, Blacks here gave more than their share. Recently there has been refocused national and global attention on its significance. The intent here of our conversation is not to provide an exhaustive account of a 400-year history but instead to offer a portrayal of the rich tapestry of Black giving from which we can build a more equitable and inclusive understanding of philanthropy in our communities.
Our conversation will focus on the ingenuity of Black philanthropy and why its legacy is just as, or even more critical today. We will discuss the roots of Giving Black and how the formation of Black churches and mutual-aid societies provided the foundation for traditions that we still observe today. As we celebrate Black History month, we want to close it out with a clear line of sight of how our past is our stepping stone to our future.
Below, please find all the pertinent information, questions, and/or issues that we would like to address during this event. Please take a moment to review this information.

Please join us to celebrate World Sickle Cell Day on Wednesday, June 19 at 4:30PM at Boston Medical Center Moakley Green- 830 Harrison Avenue, Boston MA, 02118. Also known as Juneteenth, this date commemorates the day Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) was recognized as a United Nations public health concern and is now used as a way to build awareness around the devastating effects of SCD for patients and their families. There is no better way to commemorate the abolition of slavery in the United States, than to come together as a community to recognize the impact that this disease has had on so many Black communities across the United States.
